Short description

This submodule of the course “Developing digital skills” was created to support teachers and trainers in teaching the topic of digital content creation to their learners. The submodule is divided into two lessons:

  • Developing digital content
  • Copyright and Licences

In the first lesson, developing digital content, you will receive some inputs and ideas on how you could teach different programs for digital content creation to your students, a focus is on text processing programs and presentation software. You will also learn how you can instruct your students on the different types of digital content and their specific formats. You will see how you can raise awareness among students of the advantages and disadvantages of social media and tell them how social media can be used for different purposes. It is also explained how you can introduce students to different digital tools for a certain purpose and as an option for expressing themselves.  

The second lesson deals with copyright and licences. First, you will learn how to explain intellectual property to students and how to teach them about the rights of digital content. Additionally, you will receive some tips on how to teach students about different licensing schemes and about the legal limitations of using and sharing digital content. In the end, you will learn how to introduce students to certain websites and tools where downloading digital content is legal.

Objectives

The aim of this submodule is to further develop the competences of adult educators to bring the topic of digital content creation closer to their students in a motivating way.

By the end of this submodule, adult educators will be able to: 

  • teach students the most common text processing programs and presentation software.
  • instruct students on the different types of digital content and their specific formats. 
  • teach students to select the appropriate format for digital content according to its purpose. 
  • raise awareness among students of the advantages and disadvantages of social media. 
  • teach students to indicate the areas of social media applications.
  • introduce students to different digital tools for a certain purpose and as an option for expressing themselves.
  • give input about “intellectual property” and teach students about intellectual property rights of digital content, goods and services. 
  • teach students about different licensing schemes so that students are able to check and understand the right to use and/or re-use digital content by knowing the different licensing schemes.
  • give input on the legal limitations of using and sharing digital content and possible consequences of illegal actions as well as copyright exceptions. 
  • introduce students to certain websites and tools where downloading digital content is legal (e.g., freepik, pixabay,…).
